About PRI-3

From San Juan, PR to Fajardo, PR

Interstate PRI-3 is an unsigned Interstate route serving eastern Puerto Rico, running roughly between the San Juan metropolitan area and the eastern end of the island near Fajardo. It follows expressway and primary highway corridors along the eastern side of the island, connecting the capital region with the communities of the east coast.

Like the other Puerto Rico Interstate designations, PRI-3 carries no Interstate shields and is known to travelers by the Puerto Rico route numbers that form its path. It provides a faster connection along the eastern corridor than the older surface roads it parallels.

The route was designated to make the eastern expressway corridor eligible for federal Interstate funding. It connects with the other Puerto Rico Interstate routes near San Juan, completing the small island system together with PRI-1 and PRI-2.
