PRI-2
Western and southern Puerto Rico
About PRI-2
Also known as Autopista Jose de Diego (PR-22).
From San Juan, PR to Ponce, PR (via the west)
Interstate PRI-2 is an unsigned Interstate route in Puerto Rico that serves the western and southern portions of the island. It is carried by Primary Route 22, the tolled Autopista Jose de Diego west from San Juan along the north coast, together with segments of Primary Route 2 that continue toward the western and southern regions.
The corridor runs along the populated north coast and reaches toward the western cities of the island, providing a high-speed alternative to the older coastal roads. As with the other Puerto Rico routes, it carries no Interstate shields and is identified by the Puerto Rico highway numbers that make up its path.
PRI-2 was designated to bring the island's western expressway corridor into the federal Interstate funding program. It joins the rest of the Puerto Rico Interstate routes in the San Juan area, where the three designations meet.

History
Interstate PRI-2 was designated in 1965 as part of the program that gave Puerto Rico's expressways Interstate status for funding purposes. The number was overlaid on the PR-22 toll expressway and connecting highways rather than applied to newly built Interstate mileage, and it was never signed.
