About I-84 (PA-MA)

From Dunmore, PA (I-81) to Sturbridge, MA (I-90)

This eastern Interstate 84 is a separate route of the same number running about 232 miles from Dunmore, Pennsylvania, near Scranton, east to Sturbridge, Massachusetts. It begins at Interstate 81 and heads east across the Pocono region of Pennsylvania, crosses the lower Hudson Valley in New York, and continues through Connecticut to a junction with the Massachusetts Turnpike at its eastern end.

In Connecticut the highway is the principal east-west freeway across the center of the state, passing through Danbury, Waterbury, and the capital city of Hartford, the largest community along its length. At Hartford it crosses the Connecticut River on the Bulkeley Bridge and meets Interstate 91. East of Hartford it climbs into the hills of eastern Connecticut before reaching the Massachusetts line.

The route serves as a major regional connector linking northeastern Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley with central Connecticut and the Massachusetts Turnpike toward Boston. It carries heavy commuter and through traffic across a densely developed part of southern New England.
